CAIR: Condemning “Hate Filled Comments?”
On February 13, 2004, the Council
on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) printed an article
on their web site regarding the Democratic National Committee’s
issuance of a press release concerning comments made by Rep. Peter King
(R-NY). Anti-CAIR (ACAIR)
commented on this in our “Analysis and Commentary” dated
February 13, 2004.
In part,
CAIR writes:
The Council on
American Islamic Relations (CAIR) today applauded the Democratic National
Committee’s (DNC) condemnation of claims made by rep. Peter T. King (R-NY)
that “85 percent” of American Muslim community leaders are “an enemy living
amongst us” and that “no (American) Muslims” cooperate in the war on terror.”
CAIR, one of
- Condemn
ANYONE for any comments. Since when has CAIR earned
the right to speak for American Muslims?
- Quote
a press release from one of the major American political parties.
- Call
on Rep. King to meet with Muslim representatives. No
Senator, Congressman or member of the administration should have any contact
with CAIR. CAIR has nothing to add to the discussion
on any subject.
Why is ACAIR concerned about CAIR’s comments? Consider:
1. Several
SENIOR members of CAIR have been arrested for supporting militant Islam:
a. CAIR official Bassem K.
Khafagi who has plead guilty to charges of visa and bank fraud in federal
court in Detroit.
b. Ghassan
Elashi, arrested in December of 2002 for dealing
in the property of a designated terrorist, was a founder of the Holy Land
Foundation and a member of the founding board of Directors of CAIR-Texas.
c. Randall
Todd Royer who has pleaded guilty to various terrorism-related charges
and is awaiting sentencing.
This is a very short list of the
number of CAIR officers whom have been tied to militant Islam.
2. CAIR’s
leadership is on record as being in support of militant Islamic causes,
including (but not limited to) Hamas, the group believed to have recently
terror-murdered three Americans in the
We believe
CAIR to be a militant Islamist organization that hides behind the label
of being a “civil rights organization” in order to advance its brand of
Wahhabi Islam.
It would
do well to remember the words of Senator
Chuck Schumer, a
New York Democrat who stated that prominent members of CAIR; referring specifically
to Nihad Awad and
Omar Ahmad have intimate links with Hamas.
Later, he remarked that “we know [CAIR] has ties
to terrorism.”
No good
can come to the DNC or the GOP from cooperating with CAIR, a group that has
“ties to terrorism”.
Was this
story in your local newspaper? Why not?
CAIR: Opposing Common Sense in Education Policy?
On February 13, 2004, the Council on American Islamic relations
(CAIR) issued an “American Muslim News Brief” (not yet posted to CAIR’s
web site) calling for opposition to a Senate bill.
In the words
of CAIR:
“CAIR is urging
American Muslims and other people who value academic freedom to contact
their senators, particularly members of the Senate Committee on Health,
Education, Labor, and Pensions,
to express opposition to the creation of an International Studies Advisory
Board that could be part of the Senate counterpart
to H.R. 3077, the Education Reauthorization Act now being
drafted by the HELP Committee.”
“Section 633
of the Education Reauthorization Act calls for the creation of an advisory
board consisting of at least two appointees that represent national security
agencies overseeing curricula, course materials and the recruitment of faculty
that accept federal government money for international studies. While Asian, African, European, and Latin American area
studies programs will be affected, Middle Eastern studies programs are the
real target of the advisory board.”
“The advisory
board could serve to stifle academic freedom by suppressing any views that
are not viewed as supportive of
“Pipes faced
a storm of criticism when he launched Campus Watch, a web site that included
“dossiers” on professors and academic institutions thought to be too critical
of
“In a January
13th Washington Post article, Pipes claimed “Middle East Studies
have not served us well” and that the board will serve to “…supervise the
distribution of government funds…of what he considers to be the radical
Middle East studies lobby centered in universities such as Columbia, Georgetown
and the University of Chicago.”
“H.R. 3077 passed
the House floor with little notice of academic freedom concerns.”
“At a time
when congress is pushing for democracy and academic freedom in the
CAIR
is clearly making their position known:
Would American
taxpayers be pleased to know that their tax money could support “educational”
projects that foster anti-Americanism? How about
taxpayer support for maddrassas? We already know what militant Islamists think of Americans
who support education programs in the Gaza
Do we really
want to be taking policy advice from CAIR, a group that has ties to militant
Islam?
Advisory to Members
of the Armed Forces
Members
of the Armed Forces are advised that it is a violation of the Uniform Code
of Military Justice (UCMJ) to use a government-supplied computer or telecommunications
device for personal business. If you are in doubt,
consult your unit’s written policy on the use of government supplied equipment
BEFORE doing so.
