CAIR: Not
Welcome at Darfur Rally
On 30 April, the Council on American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR)
posted a News Release on its web site lamenting the lack of an
invitation to the Darfur Rally held the same day in Washington, D.C.
The rally, organized by the “Save Darfur
Coalition” has a “Unity Statement”
posted and CAIR is a signatory, along with the Islamic Society of North
America, the Islamic Circle of North America, the Muslim Public Affairs
Council, and the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation.
Readers are invited to review the backgrounds
of each of these “Islamic” groups and reach their own conclusions about
whether it would be appropriate for any of them to have a
representative speak about Darfur…or on any other subject requiring
rational, reasonable commentary.
CAIR’s new “concern” about the fate of Darfur
Africans is curious when we remember CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper’s
comment back in July of 2004:
“We don't have enough
knowledge of the situation to make judgments."
This time, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad,
had this to say:
"It is unfortunate that
the Save Darfur Coalition chose not to list any mainstream
American Muslim groups in the rally program…this disturbing
omission calls
into question the coalition's true agenda at the rally."
“Mainstream American Muslim groups”?
Is CAIR claiming to be “mainstream”?
If so, there is now a new, much lower standard
for “mainstream American Muslim groups” in North America.
However, in one regard, CAIR is in the lead: in
the race to the
bottom.
CAIR is quickly becoming more and more
marginalized in North America and we see this as a welcome trend.
CAIR is right to ask why they weren’t
invited…but should be careful as they may not like the answer. We
believe that responsible civil rights groups did not want to share the
stage with CAIR…and we believe events will prove this to be true.
If so, we can’t blame them.
Nothing good comes from associating with the
odious CAIR organization.
“Muslim
Civil Rights group” indeed! ...
