CAIR: Saudi Men Innocent Victims of “Cultural Differences”

The Tampa Tribune (Florida) carried a story on 20 May by Keith Morelli titled “Saudi Men Who Rode School Bus Arrested”.

WorldNetDaily has also written about this incident.

Apparently, two Saudi men boarded a school bus and rode it to Wharton High School.  The bus driver and students naturally became alarmed and the driver called ahead where the school bus was met by sheriff’s deputies and the men were detained.  Bail was set at $250, but has since been revoked.

These, according to the sheriff’s spokesman, are the “several reasons” why the two men took the bus:

     -  They wanted to go the school to “…look around...”

     -  They wanted to visit the school to “…have some fun…”

     -  They wanted “…to enroll in..the English classes…”

The article goes on to mention that the men laughed and spoke in Arabic while on the bus.

This raises several concerns…we’ve read of incidents that appear to be attempts to “profile” security forces and also actions by Middle East foreigners that appear to be attempts to intimidate Americans or provide sick amusement.

However, the comments of Ahmed Bedier, Tampa director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) chapter, are
telling:
“…they were from Saudi Arabia, that escalated the situation …
they didn't differentiate between a school bus and public transportation…"

So, we are to believe, from Bedier’s statements that the whole incident was because the men were from Saudi Arabia and they were too stupid to know the difference between a public bus and a school bus.

This is the best Bedier can come up with?

To recap, the men have been in the country for about six months, attending English classes…they don’t know the difference between a public bus and a school bus…they lied about their country of origin…gave three reasons for taking the bus…and CAIR stands up for them based on some weird notion of “cultural differences”?

The revoking of the very low bail is a signal that authorities may have discovered further information on this incident; we’ll be watching to see what develops…and how CAIR responds ...
